A clear, friendly guide to get your Trézor® hardware wallet powered, initialized and secured. Designed for first-time users and returners who want confidence while setting up.
Unbox your Trézor® and find the essentials: the device, a USB cable, recovery seed card(s), and any stickers or documentation. Use a clean, private space and avoid public Wi‑Fi when initializing. Keep your phone or computer nearby — you will need to connect the device to start.trezor.io (or trezor.io/start), follow the on-screen instructions, and install official firmware.
Use the official USB cable to connect your Trézor® to the computer or phone. The device screen will light up and display a welcome message plus a device model number. Confirm the model matches the packaging.
Open your web browser and type trezor.io/start manually — avoid clicking random links. The site will guide you to download Trezor Suite or continue with the web interface. Choose the option that fits your preference.
If the device requires firmware, the official site will prompt a secure firmware installation. Let the process complete — do not unplug the device mid-update. The device screen shows verification phrases; compare them with the browser to ensure the connection is genuine.
Choose Create new to initialize a fresh wallet. The device will generate a recovery seed — usually 12, 18, or 24 words depending on your chosen settings. Write each word clearly, in order, on the recovery card supplied. Double-check spelling and order; this is the only way to recover assets if your device is lost or damaged.
Create a PIN code on the device. The PIN adds an extra layer of security: it encrypts access to the device and prevents unauthorized withdrawals even if someone has your hardware wallet physically.
Once your wallet is ready, send a small test transaction to confirm everything works before transferring larger amounts. Explore Trezor Suite to check addresses, manage multiple cryptocurrencies, and enable advanced features like passphrase protection if you need additional secrecy.
